How autism funding works in Massachusetts
Massachusetts services are administered by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS). While the state's Autism Waiver is limited to children under age 10, a major change matters for adults: thanks to the 2014 Autism Omnibus Bill, adults with autism can qualify for DDS services even without a co-occurring intellectual disability.
Families are encouraged to begin the adult eligibility application around age 17, even while still in school, so support is in place at the transition to adulthood. Once eligible, adults can access employment, day, community living, and family supports. Coaching is available virtually across the state as you plan that transition.
